RIA Brings High Quality, High Field Strength Open MRI to Clinton location in Prince George's County, Maryland

Posted on: 01/15/2013

Radiology Imaging Associates now offers their new “High Field Strength” Open MRI system in Prince George’s county, at their Heritage imaging facility in Clinton Maryland. The new Hitachi Oasis 1.2 Tesla high-field strength Open MRI provides the most open architecture combined with the highest field strength of any open MRI in existence. RIA installed the Oasis MRI at its Patuxent Imaging Center in Prince Frederick Maryland in late 2011 and the clinical benefits have been well received by the community.

Open MRI has historically not delivered high resolution image quality comparable to conventional high-field strength MRI systems, but many patients, due to claustrophobia or size, accepted the limitations of older low field open MRI over the confinement of traditional closed bore-type MRI. The new Hitachi system combines wide-open magnet architecture and 1.2 Tesla high field-strength technologies, so patients can have both a comfortable exam experience and referring physicians receive high quality images they prefer for confident diagnosis.

“This is our second installation of the high field Open MRI”, stated Joseph P. Finizio, M.D., President and Medical Director of RIA. “The 1.2 Tesla Hitachi Oasis enables us to image patients up to 660 pounds, and also provide our pediatric, elderly and claustrophobic patients with comfort, while simultaneously providing exceptional image quality comparable to our high-field strength bore type systems. We’ve wanted to bring Open MRI to southern Maryland for many years but didn’t want to compromise on image quality. We waited until an imaging system of this caliber was available. Now, the compromise between comfort and quality has been resolved: The Oasis MRI provides the best of both.”

The Oasis Open MRI system provides the most powerful magnetic field strength and gradient field strength available today making imaging procedures as quick and easy as possible. The new Open MRI delivers image quality comparable to that of conventional high-field, closed bore systems and all of the most advanced imaging applications ranging from vascular, to orthopedic, to women’s imaging, including MRI guidance for breast biopsy.

The Oasis MRI has been be installed at RIA’s newly renovated full service diagnostic imaging facility in the Heritage Medical Park, located at 8926 Woodyard Road, Suite 301, in Clinton Maryland.
